Trevor Gee specialist Retaining Wall Builder
Garden Wall Construction
Trevor Gee, also a specialist retaining wall builder/garden wall builder, creates structures designed to restrain soil on unnatural slopes. They are used to bound soils between two different elevations, in the areas of your yard possessing undesirable slopes or where landscape needs to be shaped.
It is important that a retaining wall structure is constructed and designed to resist the lateral pressure of soil, when there is a desired change in ground elevation.
Here at Act Fast Fencing we specialise in building retaining walls in the format of post and sleeper configuration, that can be stand alone or incorporated into a fence that is being constructed, Materials that are commonly used for posts include timber or galvanised steel, set in a solid concrete foundation that is deep enough to withstand the lateral pressure of the soil being applied to the wall. Generally, the post hole needs to be deeper than the wall is high to achieve this.
Common materials used for sleepers are Treated Pine or Red Gum. If you are using timber, this needs to be protected using a plastic lining, which will stop it from rotting.
Another product that has gained popularity are concrete sleepers, that now come in a variety of colours and textures, and are very long lasting.
Most importantly, drainage behind a retaining wall of any substantial height is always recommended, as this helps decrease the hydraulic pressure against the wall, in turn making sure the wall never leans forward.
